We had healthy salads for dinner one day this week. Start with local-grown fresh spinach, and top with sliced green apple, tomato, grilled chicken, and a little feta…add some olive oil and balsamic vinegar, and it’s the perfect salad.
We discovered that our cat Sophie has appropriated a flower pot on the Master bedroom’s side patio. Every evening when we arrive home from work, we find Sophie, sleeping in her little pot. At one time there were herbs planted in this same pot, but the cat has either eaten them, or smashed them down to the point that the pot now just contains dirt.
We had a get-together in the middle of the week for a friend who was in town from Vermont. When entertaining in the middle of the week, our preference is to eat simply (actually, if you’ve been reading our blog long enough, you know that eating simply is our all-the-time preference). It’s far better to spend our time talking with guests, than preparing complex dishes that take us away from the conversation. Before our guests’ arrival, I filled a portable utensil holder with silverware and reusable plastic outdoor plates.
Meanwhile, Dave cooked hamburgers and corn on the grill, while I cooked bratwurst and baked beans inside. The adults enjoyed plenty of conversation around the table, while the teenage boys consumed many hamburgers and sausages, before running to the pond to paddle the canoe. Later, everyone enjoyed petting the dogs, and feeding them leftover pieces of hamburger. It was a nice evening.

Libby, totally agree with you – we spend fare to much time cooking when we have friends around – instead of spend time with them. The pot are not big that she has moved into – she looks really comfortable in it. Cats can really get into anything if they put their mind to. Wish you a great weekend too.
She’s actually sleeping in the pot right now as I write this! That cat really knows how to relax.
Cats has so big souls … but also so calculating.
You are so right! I think Sophie is at this very moment calculating how to sneak inside and steal the chicken we have marinating on the kitchen counter for tonight’s dinner!
That shot of Sophie is just too good!
