About us
We are Dave and Libby. Dave’s a geeky space engineer, and Libby’s a geeky space scientist. Join us as we explore all sorts of green stuff, including home and car applications, green energy, home repairs, home design, energy-smart ideas for the home, even tips for the garden.
We live in the Houston, Texas area on a piece of property that is big enough to be a little farm. The property was in Dave’s family for years, but it wasn’t until fall 2010 that we moved here. It needs lots of work, and frankly we aren’t sure if we are going to tear it down and start new, or if we’ll just remodel the heck out of it.
Congratulations, you’ve been tagged by Mrs. Sparkly’s Ten Commandments!! Enjoy: http://creativenoshing.wordpress.com/2012/02/15/a-little-about-me/
You get bonus points for not only be geeky scientists, but for having Irish Wolfhounds. I *love* those dogs and am counting down the days to when I get to move into my own house and have one of my own…or two…maybe six.
Where did yours come from? Shelter? Breed rescue? A breeder? An awesome friend?
IWs are very gentle and sweet-natured, and they are wonderful family dogs. Ours come from an IW breeder in Magnolia, Texas. When you decide to get an IW of your own, please be very careful about where you go. IWs grow so quickly, and it’s easy to damage a dog for life, by doing things improperly when they are still very young. You don’t want the heartache of falling in love with a particular dog, and then discovering later that it has joint and bone problems from a careless breeder. The breeder of our dogs is excellent, and with a fine reputation. They are also very careful with who they sell their dogs to, and they won’t sell an IW pup to someone they think is not adequately prepared. And, you say you’d like several IWs, which is an excellent idea, since they don’t live very long. Addie is over 5, and Otis just turned 2. When Addie is no longer with us, we’ll get another one, so we will always have an IW or two in our home (we call Otis “Mr Loving Kindness, and “The Big Handsome”).
I think my biggest concern with them is that they do have the shorter lifespan because of their size…I am very much a “dogs are family” type person, and I still have moments when I tear up a little when I think too much about my old Scottie who left us.
Whenever we’ve gotten dogs in the past we’ve tried our best to find either a reputable, responsible breeder, or a breed rescue organization. I’m too far away to use your breeder, but maybe when the time comes I might check back in with you to see if they might be able to recommend someone they trust in the more northern part of the US.
Thanks for the information! I appreciate it! Enjoy your sweet puppies
Dave had your same concerns re longevity…but my last IW lived to be 14 years old. Don’t let the shorter lifespan turn you away. You’re a “dog person,” and you’ll find an IW someday that you’ll love as much as your old Scottie. Thx for commenting!

Thank you for this award. You are very kind, and very deserving of it yourself. I can’t wait to tell Dave that the bacon is paying off.
Hey Libby, I’ve nominated you for the Reader Appreciation Award. You can check it out here: http://wuppenif.com/2012/10/18/reader-appreciation-award/
Wow! Thanks!
We hope Otis and Addie are happy with you back on the property! Pugsley is sound asleep snoring his head off! Looking forward to cooking some of your recipes – they look great.
So funny that Pugsley snores! Our dog Doodle snores, and wakes us up in the middle of the night. Enjoy the recipes! The deviled eggs get more view every day than anything…Down Under you might have difficulties getting some of the ingredients, but it is ok to make substitutions.
