Flowers cheap and easy

May 4, 2011 § Leave a comment

We like fresh flowers in the house, but it makes us sad when we spend $20 on a grocery store bouquet and it lasts for about 4 days.

On Sunday, we had a little spontaneous dinner party.  Lacking store-bought flowers, and not having enough time to run out to the garden and cut a few blooms from the rosebushes, I put a nursery pot of petunias into a basket.

It looked nice on the table, and is still looking nice sitting on the kitchen counter, where you see it now.  This arrangement cost us all of $7, and will last for at least a week in its little basket (assuming I remember to water it regularly).  Next weekend, I’ll take the petunias out of the pot and plant them in the ground, where they will bloom for another few weeks.
