Apple pie with pecan streusel

April 26, 2012 § 5 Comments

We made this apple pie with pecan streusel topping last weekend.  It was not too sweet, and the pecans added a nice crunch to the topping.

Apple pie with pecan streusel

Pastry for a single pie crust

7 large apples, peeled, cored, and sliced

2/3 cup sugar

3 tablespoons flour

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1 tablespoon lemon juice

2/3 cup flour

2/3 cup finely chopped pecans

2/3 cup packed brown sugar

5 tablespoons melted butter

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.  Place the pie crust in a deep dish pie pan.  Stir together the apple slices, 2/3 cup sugar, 3 tablespoons flour, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, and the lemon juice.  Arrange the apples in the pie dish; set aside.

Stir together the remaining 2/3 cup flour, pecans, packed brown sugar, melted butter, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and the 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg.  Sprinkle on top of the apple mixture.

Bake for about 1 hour until the fruit mixture is tender and bubbly.
