Chief, now an inside cat

May 28, 2012 § 4 Comments

Just look at this scratched-up face.  Chief is now an inside cat, but when he gets the chance to go outside, he immediately finds a fight.  Take a look at these recent battle scars.

After Chief’s recent escapades (which involved over one thousand dollars of veterinarian bills), he now spends most of his time indoors.  Chief’s days now encompass teasing the dogs, fighting with Alexander over who gets first dibs on sleeping at the foot of our bed,  and pooping in the dogs’ food dish.  Yes, this is how it is these days.  Why can’t a cat differentiate between a litter box and a food dish?  I’m grateful at least that he is not pooping on Dave’s pillow.

Meanwhile, we’re having to develop strategies for handling a cat who sits on the dining room table (completely unacceptable), rides the dogs like horses (actually pretty funny), and sings opera songs at 2am (not funny at all).  Any ideas regarding coping mechanisms are welcome.

Libby, I think he knows very well where he poop – he are only going to make himself to a nuisance for the dogs … maybe he are jealous or something, there is something he are not pleased with indoors, I guess it’s because he are indoors. Libby, I would love to read about those strategies – good luck with them.

Even though he is still driving me and the dogs nuts, he’s actually doing much better than he was a couple of weeks ago, when we decided to confine him indoors. We have a routine whereby we let him outside for a few hours, and then make him come back in before it gets dark.

Man, what an expression on that cat’s face! He’s clearly a personality. I’m afraid I’ve never lived with such a personality so have no coping mechanisms to offer!

He’s a little calmer today (thank goodness). I think it has something to do with our newfound idea to allow him outside 1-2 hours per day.
